Terms of service

The deal, in plain English.

These terms cover chat.greenai.org.uk and this site. Using GreenAI means you accept them. How we handle your data is a separate document: the privacy policy.

What GreenAI is

A chat assistant running open-weight models chosen for low energy per answer, which publishes an energy estimate under every reply. It is a small, young service, not an enterprise platform, and we'd rather you judged it on that basis.

Your account

You need a working email address, and you're responsible for what happens under your login - keep the password to yourself. One account per person; accounts aren't transferable. You must be at least 13 years old.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account.

Credits, free and paid

  • Free tier. Every account gets a daily top-up of credits, enough for ordinary daily use. It arrives when your balance runs down, not as a lump each morning.
  • Boost plans. £5, £10 or £20 a month add credits on top of the free allowance. Yearly plans are the same credits for 20% less, billed once.
  • Yearly plans are credited monthly. A year's credits are not handed over on day one - each month's share lands on its date, so the allowance can't be spent in a week.
  • Credits don't expire while your account is open, and they aren't money: they can't be transferred, sold or cashed out.

Deep mode, long conversations and web search all use more credits than a short question, because they use more of the model.

Payments, cancelling and refunds

Payments are taken by Stripe in pounds sterling. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from the billing page - you keep what you've already been credited, and nothing further is charged.

If something goes wrong at our end - a charge that didn't deliver credits, a double payment, a plan that didn't do what this page says - email us and we'll fix it or refund it. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Using it sensibly

Don't use GreenAI to break the law, to generate material that harms or sexualises children, to harass people, or to produce malware or fraud. Don't try to break, overload or work around the service - no scraping the interface, reselling access, sharing one account across a team, or dodging credit limits with scripts or extra accounts.

We can suspend or close an account that does these things. Where it's fair to, we'll tell you why first.

What the answers are worth

The model gets things wrong. It can be confidently wrong. Check anything that matters before you rely on it, and treat replies as a starting point rather than professional advice - it is not a lawyer, doctor, accountant or engineer.

You keep whatever rights you have in what you type. We only use it to run the service, as set out in the privacy policy. We make no claim over what the model writes back to you.

The energy figures

The Wh and CO₂e numbers under each reply are estimates, and they say so. They come from published figures for models of that size and from the region of whichever provider served the request - not from a meter on the machine. They're a good-faith comparison, not a measurement, and we'll say so until we own the hardware and can measure it.

Availability

We aim to keep GreenAI up, but there's no uptime guarantee: it depends on providers we don't control, and features may change or be withdrawn. The service is provided as-is, without warranties beyond those the law gives you.

Where the law allows it, our liability for any claim is limited to what you've paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the date at the top changes when we do, and continuing to use GreenAI means the new version applies. If a change is significant we'll say so in the app.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction.
